What
was it like to be a soldier in
that great World War??
Under Wraps features the
compelling diary of Jay Coffman, which he recorded during his service in
the US Army Infantry in the South Pacific throughout World War II. He
wrote about the war, home and
family, his
buddies, tropical islands, contracting malaria, and his long-distance
romance with the “girl back home.” Since keeping a diary in combat zones
was a court-martial offense, Coffman kept his diary notes hidden in his
personal effects until the war ended. Editor Tom Fulks discovered the
diary and added notes that clarify and amplify the diary, especially for
readers who did not experience World War II.
“Coffman left behind a volume
that will give historians and readers an intimate look at these
horrific events in the Pacific conflict. Being an eyewitness to
history is leaving behind a legacy. In this case, Coffman has
accomplished just that with his diary that is worth reading.
